A beautiful, golden morning latte with plenty of anti-inflammatory benefits. This warming drink also gently wakes up your digestive system.
This drink is so easy and you probably have most of the ingredients in your house right now!
Cinnamon, turmeric, cardamom and ginger combine to boost digestion. These spices are great for bloating, gas and indigestion. They also calm inflammation in the body and help to balance blood sugar. A great drink to enjoy before breakfast!
Coconut oil lends the creamy, frothy texture but it also helps deliver the benefit of these spices in your system.
I like to use unsweetened almond milk as the base but any milk will work as well.
Why turmeric? Turmeric boosts antioxidant capacity in the body. It also has very powerful anti-inflammatory effects, which can aid in easing chronic pain. Turmeric may boost brain function and lower the risk of brain diseases, such as Alzheimer’s. It can even reduce the risk of, and possibly help to cure, cancer.
I love taking my daily dose of turmeric this way. I don’t feel the need to add sweetener, but if you want to, try a few drops of stevia, a dollop of honey or maple syrup.
1 c. unsweetened almond milk
1 T. coconut oil
1/8 t. cinnamon
1/8 t. ginger
1/8 t. turmeric
1/8 t. cardamom
a few twists of freshly ground black pepper
Heat all ingredients in a saucepan. Pour carefully into a blender and blend on high speed for 5 seconds. Carefully remove the lid and pour into a coffee cup. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon. Serves one.
